Final Fantasy XIV Aetherytes

September 26th, 2010 by admin

Final Fantasy XIV Aetherytes are a mystery to all of the people in Eorzea. Eorzea is the land that the Gods favored, and it seems that the people of this land flocked there because of the Aetherytes. They are valued by everyone and used as a way of everyday life. They truly are an asset.

The history of the Final Fantasy XIV Aetherytes is as follows. No one knows where they came from, who made them, or how they got there. These special pieces of crystals seem to have the power to assist people in many different ways. The Aetherytes have been placed in multiple places around Eorzea. They can be found in many different locations and each will teleport people to different areas. During teleportation, the user turns into mist and is reassembled in the new zone. The Aetherytes also restore all HP (Health Points) and MP (Mana Points), act as a warping devise by setting home points, and allow the user to begin any levequests in his or her possession from that area.

The Final Fantasy XIV Aetherytes can be found inside cities and in field areas. The citizens have given them names; La Noscea Aetheryte, Thanalan Aetheryte, The Black Shroud Aetheryte, Mor Dhona Aetheryte, and Coerthas Aetheryte. Once a character touches an Aetheryte for the first time, that crystal is added to a teleport list allowing the user to teleport to that crystal any time in the future. An interesting fact about these crystals is that as long as the leader of a party has accessed the crystal, the whole party can teleport with him or her even if they have not touched the crystal.

There are even more interesting things about the Final Fantasy XIV Aetherytes. Along with the Aetherytes, there are Aetherial Gates and Aetherial Nodes. The Aetherial Gates have also been very helpful and found throughout many areas. These can be used to restore HP and MP as well as set home points. The Aetherial Nodes normally appear after a user has completed a levequest. They allow the user to teleport back to the Aetheryte crystal the quest started from.

Even thought the Final Fantast XIV Aetherytes are mysterious, they do not seem to pose a threat to anyone. They are helpful crystals that all players should locate and learn how to use to their benefit. These crystals can make traveling through the lands very convenient.

Final Fantasy XIV Armoury

August 4th, 2010 by admin

The Final Fantasy XIV Armoury is the way FFXIV handles classes. Other MMORPG’s have handled classes in a variety of ways, from systems where you choose a class and are stuck with it, to ones where there are no classes, only skills, and you can potentially level them all up fully. The Final Fantasy XIV Armoury system incorporates parts of both of these. There are archetypal classes, however, you aren’t stuck into any one of them.

I have played a lot of MMORPG’s, and one of the problems I, and many other players have had, is that it’s really fun to try out the many different roles available in an MMO. The advantage the Final Fantasy XIV Armoury system has over other games with typical RPG class roles, is that instead of having to create an entirely new character to try a new class, you can just swap weapons.

The Final Fantasy XIV Armoury system, keeps the class structure of more standard RPG’s, while also having the freedom of games like DarkFall, to play any role on the same character. In addition to solving the problem of constant re-rolling, it can be immensely fun. It’s great to be able to just change your class any time you want, by equipping a different weapon. Getting bored playing a wizard? Just yank out your sword and whack away! It also reduces the annoyance of finding a tank, or a healer, that you get in other MMORPGs. Many times while playing World of Warcraft, and similar games, I’ve had to sit around for hours waiting for a tank, or a healer. It’s almost always the case that there are more damage dealing classes than healing or tanking classes to go around, but this largely reduces the problem, though not completely solving it. After all, even if everyone CAN play a healer or tank, not everyone will want to. None the less, if you find yourself lacking one or the other, you can take up the role, while still improving the same character.

In short, the ease with which you can change Final Fantasy XIV classes, and roles, is a great addition to the game. It keeps things from getting boring and reduces the tendency for one or two classes to be vastly over played, while keeping the role oriented play, which is so symbolic of MMORPGs, and rather fun.

Final Fantasy XIV Disciples of the Land

July 21st, 2010 by admin

Final Fantasy XIV or FFXIV is the upcoming MMORPG installment in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series. Final Fantasy XIV starts in a new land with some familiarities for previous players of Square Enix’s first MMORPG Final Fantasy XI. One of the game elements returning to Final Fantasy XIV is the crafting element renamed Disciples of the Land.

The FFXIV classes are organized into four Disciplines, below is a detailed look into the Disciples of the Land, for information on the concept of disciplines, visit the Final Fantasy XIV Guide website.

The Disciples of the Land is a subgroup of the overall crafting jobs for crafting enthusiasts in Final Fantasy XIV. Players can chose to gather items throughout the player world. The Disciples of the Land is broken into jobs such as Botanist and Miner.

Botanist is the study of plants or plant biology. Miners work exclusively within mines and extract valuable minerals. In application to the Final Fantasy XIV world, there is not much information currently available regarding the actual gameplay mechanics. Although some players have speculated due to the similarities between Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XI that the job will allow players to gather items at gathering points scattered throughout various worlds. In an interview by Square Enix, a player will only be able to see the gathering points attributed to the player’s equipped Disciples of the Land. What this means is that a player equipped with a Disciples of War job will be unable to see a Disciples of the Land gathering point.

Disciples of the Land will work in conjunction with Disciples of the Hand. Disciples of the Hand is a job creating consumable items for players throughout the world. Disciples of the Hand jobs such as Alchemist will be able to benefit directly from the items gathered under the Disciples of the Land job Botanist. This will allow players to reap a ripe profit by cutting out the middle man in synthesizing consumable items. Another job correlation will be Blacksmith and Miner.

According to interviews with Square Enix, Final Fantasy XIV is set for release in the fourth quarter of 2010. It is a highly anticipated game by fans of the Final Fantasy series.

Final Fantasy XIV Guildleves – What Are They?

July 19th, 2010 by admin

In Final Fantasy XIV, Guildleves are kind of like tickets that you can use to join in on a bunch of different quests that are known as levequests. There’s an Adventurer’s Guild in every city-state where you can get them. After creating your first character on beta, you’re introduced shortly after to your first levequest.

There are two types of guildleves in Final Fantasy XIV: local guildleves and regional guildleves. The local levequests generally involve synthesis and normally can be finished without even going to different zones. The regional levequests involves players going to different zones where you’ll generally be finding or killing things. At the moment you can have eight levequests at a time.

One cool thing about the Guildleves, is that they are only seen by people who are on the levequest. This is great against random players who are clearly not on the same levequest but decide to mess with your item or mob. Navigation is pretty easy too, as little marks appear on the main map to help tell you where your objective is. It’s also shown throughout the time the levequest is active.

If you happen to die during your levequest, you can continue once you return to your home point. But, if you move to a different zone or logout during the levequest, then you’ll fail the levequest.

Regional guildleves have a time limit and have to be activated by an aetheryte before you can start. Local guildleves don’t have a time limit and don’t need to be activated by an aether crystal. To start a local guildleve, you’ll hit the Synthesize button. The quest givers will provide you the materials (and aren’t added to the your regular inventory).

To increase the gil rewards of the same Final Fantasy XIV guildleves, check on the list of guildleves and look for “1+” to exchange leves. If the reward is an item, it’ll be highlighted. If there’s a “0” there, exchanging leves won’t impact the rewards.

There are some problem with the guildleves. For one, there is an absurd cooldown of 48 hours for the guildleves. Considering the rewards, the cooldown is too long. There is really no option to abandon leves either, unless you want to initiate the 48 hour cooldown. So, if you happen to get disconnected from the game (or forced to logout because of a bug), you’ll have to now wait 48 hours. To advance, you are almost forced to do crafting leves, whether you want to craft on your character or not.

The Final Fantasy XIV guildleves are a reminder of Square Enix’s love of mini games in the Final Fantasy series; however, guildleves appear to be an important source of advancing your character and at the moment, the problems and limitations noted above seem to hold characters back instead. The cooldown issue is the most perplexing because this newer Final Fantasy game is supposed to be a more casual version of its counterpart. If not fixed, they might be an annoying feature of the game.

Final Fantasy XIV Disciplines of Magic

May 31st, 2010 by admin

Final Fantasy XIV has a generic party structure of tanks, damage dealers and magic users. Physical damage is generally delivered by the tanking and damage dealing classes whereas magic users primarily utilize magic as their main source of damage and support. Final Fantasy XIV uses this same structure to develop their job system with magic users falling under the category of Disciplines of Magic.

Magic users in a game will tend to be of a supportive nature or damage dealing. Curative, party enhancing and enemy enfeebling generally fall under the supportive spells category. Elemental damage spells such as Fire, Wind, Water, and Earth fall under the damage dealing category. Disciplines of Magic has two main jobs: Thaumaturge and Conjurer. Interestingly, jobs with the Disciplines of Magic have the ability to utilize both supportive and damage dealing spells. The delivery of these spells is the primary difference between the Thaumaturge and Conjurer.

Thaumaturge has a Greek origin and is translated as a person that is capable of being a saint or miracle worker. The Thaumaturge job within Final Fantasy XIV delivers AoE or Area of Effect spells which damage multiple enemies. The same is true for spells that enhance your party. Therefore, it is important when utilizing a spell to be within a specific area for your party or the enemy to get the most effect of your spell.

Conjurer is the second Disciplines of Magic job which focuses primary on elemental magic. The Conjurer is able to control the elements of wind, lightning, fire, water, ice and earth. In Final Fantasy XI elemental magic users were considered to be damage dealers. In Final Fantasy XIV this is not 100% true. Conjurers are able to cast spells that damage but are also able to cast curative spells. It is currently unknown if Conjurers will have – ga spells such as Firaga and Thundaga which are spells that attack all enemies within a specific area of effect.

Square Enix has confirmed that magic users will be able to use a ranged magic based attack that will not consume MP. This is good news for magic users that would like to store up MP as they trek throughout the world. Final Fantasy XIV is set to be released by December 2010 as confirmed through interviews by Square Enix.
